BerryReview: SplashMoney - Manage Your Personal Accounts With Ease

I was interested to find out if a “pay” program is better than my “free” program. So I downloaded it and found out a couple of things that would make me reconsider my “free is better” thinking...

After playing with SplashMoney for a bit, I have found it to be a very indispensable program...

In the end I’ve decided that in this case, a pay program is way better than a free program!

txtForward sends BlackBerry SMS messages to your email

Electric Pocket has launched txtForward for BlackBerry. txtForward automatically forwards SMS text messages received on your BlackBerry to any email address you supply. Using txtForward to send your incoming text messages to email can be useful in a number of different ways...

Some people want to backup all their text messages, so they have them safely stored away for future use. You can use txtForward to have emails sent to a gmail account, for example, where your messages will be archived forever.

Other people are more focused on email as they work through the day. Maybe they even leave their BlackBerry in their bag while they work at their desks. txtForward makes sure they don't miss an incoming SMS message, as they can have sent to their email inbox - so it shows up on their desktop PC, in Outlook for example.

Some folks have to juggle a couple of phones, maybe a work phone and a personal phone, or maybe they're swapping from a BlackBerry to an iPhone and have a new phone number. With txtForward running on the BlackBerry you won't miss any SMS text messages sent to one phone while you use the other, or if your friends don't have your new number yet.

Ringo for Palm OS is no Dead Ringer

My Centro lets me work out my evil ringtone tendencies better than any phone I’ve ever had, but it still has a few limitations. The biggest is that the built-in ringtone manager can’t handle music on the storage card, which puts a strict limit on how many different ringtones you can use. Also, like a lot of the standard Palm applications, it leaves something to be desired in the looks department.

Ringo is a ringtone manager designed to give you more control over your ringers in an easy-to-use interface.

LAPTOP Magazine: Tips and Tools to Take Better Notes

Ditch the composition pads and start loading those copious lecture notes into PhatNotes. This program works with Microsoft XP and Vista Tablet PCs, and thanks to an easy-to-use interface, Outlook-integration, and a few other snazzy features, it’s guaranteed to help students use class time more wisely. Students can enter notes by dragging and dropping text from Microsoft Word, or by typing directly into PhatNotes’ processor—which is identical to Word, save a few tweaks. For instance, you can link one note file to another, assign attachments to notes (useful if your professor shares images, PowerPoint presentations, or Word documents that relate to her lecture), add hyperlinks to the text, or use the Context Analyzer to assign phone numbers and e-mails to the notes as well. Why would you do that? Because PhatNotes works on smart phones with Windows Mobile 6.1, too. So if you’re using your BlackJack II to browse notes from an old lecture and want to call your study buddy to double-check a factoid, you can do it in just one click.

Why Haven’t You Organized Your Passwords?

There are many great database applications made for storing passwords. A previous Lifehack article by Leo Babauta lists ten free apps you can use, but I like SplashID, which costs $20, is available for both Mac and PC, and synchronizes its desktop component with almost all major PDA platforms. I really like having my information with me, securely encrypted, when I am away from my desk. Whatever application you choose, DON’T use a Word or Excel document for this purpose (especially one named “PASSWORDS”) that can be easily infiltrated.

Along with passwords and other login information, I also enjoy using the SplashID database for keeping many other data tidbits, such as software licensing information, identification numbers like my family’s Social Security numbers, my cars’ VIN numbers, computer support information and service tags, and frequent flyer program numbers.

FlipSide for Windows Mobile review

One great example of providing a friendlier face to a Windows Mobile application is Electric Pocket's FlipSide. As someone who uses Windows Media Player on my Windows Mobile phone quite frequently, I have to say that the "drill-down" approach that Windows Media Player uses to get to my music can be quite frustrating and, well, bland. FlipSide provides a finger-friendly and visual way of interacting with your music collection.

The PDA Guerilla: Annual HanDBase contest

One major advantage of developing on HanDBase is that it runs on a wide selection of handheld platforms including BlackBerry, Palm OS, Symbian S60 and UIQ, and Windows Mobile Classic/Professional and Standard.

DDH Software has not announced its plans for the Apple iPhone/iPod Touch platform yet, but industry speculation is that it is in the process of porting to that next-generation platform also, thus putting applet developers in a position to compete in what promises to be a fast growing marketplace.

Why Haven’t You Organized Your Passwords?

In my work with clients I have run into passwords in all kinds of unbelievably random and insecure places. I always shrink back from them when I see them… I don’t want to know! Passwords are the key to unimaginable ruin in the wrong hands, and it consistently shocks me how careless people are with this information.
