PhatNotes is a big, bold drought of note taking. On the surface, it’s covered in icons and colors. Under the hood you can organize “thousands” of notes in folders and groups. It also supports handwriting recognition so you can scribble your note on the screen and Phatnotes will OCR it and turn it into editable text. (A process which works pretty well (and yes, internet, it does OCR and print curse words without any censorship).
You can sync PhatNotes for iPhone with the PhatNotes for Windows desktop client (no Mac client… yet?). Given the price tag, PhatNotes will most likely appeal to hardcore on-device users who want to do as much as possible on their mobile, especially if they already use PhatNotes on the PC and see the sync as a bonus.
For those who like the handwriting recognition but don’t want the higher price and fuller organizational features, the same developer offers WritePad [$1.99 - iTunes link]

When I still regularly used a Windows Mobile device, PhatNotes by PhatWare was typically one of the first programs that I installed on a new device. I now use an iPhone much of the time rather than Windows Mobile. I’ve tried several notes programs for the iPhone, and while many of them are quite good, none have quite hit the mark for me. I like being able to group notes of similar topics, and being able to synchronize easily with desktop software is handy also. So, when PhatWare offered Gear Diary a chance to examine their newly released version of PhatNotes for the iPhone, it seemed like a good chance to check out whether PhatNotes could assume the same role on my iPhone as it did on my Windows Mobile devices.

iPhone news: PhoneFace and WritePad Pro

Electric Pocket has added an iPhone version of its PhoneFace photo speed-dial app, already available for BlackBerry and Android users. PhoneFace users can select any photo or avatar for their contacts, take a photo with the iPhone's camera, or let the app automatically locate and update the pictures of contacts with their most recent Twitter profile picture. PhoneFace will launch phone calls, text messages and emails with a simple click on a contact's photo or avatar. PhoneFace is available from the iTunes App Store for an introductory price of 99 cents.
PhatWare has released WritePad Professional Edition, a combination of its WritePad Affairs, Events, and Notes apps that were launched back in May. WritePad now supports Voice Notes, allows multiple folders of each kind, and uses new OS 3.0 features. It also allows users to transfer individual items between several iPhone devices via Wi-Fi, and Affairs now has a reminder feature implemented using the PhatWare provider server. WritePad Professional Edition is available on Apple iTunes for $9.99.

PhatNotes review
When you think about it,
PhatNotes is not just a note taking option though it does a great job of it. It’s just as great, if not better, at organizing and helping you find them later. If you’re one of those who never liked having too many notes because of the problem of finding them later on (and I know how this feels because it was one of the reasons I stopped using Notes too), then
PhatNotes is something you definitely you want to look into. No matter how many hundreds or thousands of notes you may have, as long as you categorize and color-code them properly, you encounter very little trouble finding the note you seek.
So if you’re interested about taking notes with your Pocket PC,
PhatNotes by PhatWare is one best software you should
put on your shopping list.

Our friends over at PhatWare recently contacted us to try out the latest release of PhatNotes, version 5.3. I jumped on this opportunity as it has been a long time since I reviewed one of their products. PhatNotes is an alternative to the built in notes application in Windows Mobile. In fact, not only is it an alternative option, it has advanced features not present in ‘Notes” in Windows Mobile. Best of all, you can customize it, and it is very simple and easy to use. You also get a desktop component that syncs with the PhatNotes on the device.

Mini-Review: PhatNotes 5.2 Puts It All in Context
PhatNotes has so many features that going through all of them would make this review even longer, and none of us wants that. Suffice it to say that this is one fantastic application that no serious note-taker should be without.
